Brief Introduction to Research Center for Innovation & Development (RCID)， Technological innovation is the Key for building a prosperous and strong country or nation, as well for thrives of enterprises. It is also one of the key fields among management science researches. Research Center for Innovation and Development (RCID) of Zhejiang University is an advanced research institution for innovation studies, which was founded in 1998. The preexistence of this centre is Research Center of Management Science and Development Strategy "(RCMSS) of Zhejiang University, one of the units that early engages in management of science and technology in our country. RCMSS (and later RCID) has been entitled to confer master degree and doctoral degree in S&T management in China since 1986. In the past nearly twenty years, RCID has undertaken many international and domestic research projects, which include two National Science Fund of China key projects related with technological innovation, and has published a large number of publications. RCID has been praised as "the top ten institutions for innovation studies in the world" by Professor Von Hippel, the famous innovation researcher in Sloan management college of MIT, U.S.A.. The goal of RCID is to explore the basic disciplines about innovation and development, and offer consulting services for the government's decision making and for the management problems that enterprises facing. RCID is working hard to become the important scientific research centre in innovation and development of our country, the open consulting centre for decision making, the base of high-level talents training. Through struggle of several years, try to become a famous leading research centers in Asian or even in the world. The centre regards “innovation " as the core, main research fields include the basic law for management of technological innovation, theory and methods of Total Innovation Management(TIM), Portfolio Innovation paradigm, Secondary Innovation paradigm, National Innovation System, Regional Innovation System and Enterprise Innovative System, innovation ability, innovation policy, training of innovative talents, Management tools and software for technological innovation , breakthrough innovation, complex products innovation system ,etc.. RCID has broad cooperation with many famous enterprises of our country, trying hard to offer the advanced theoretical direction and management tools on strategy, process and resource of technological innovation for the large and medium-sized enterprise of our country, and holds the seminars on management of technology and innovation for the senior managers every year. Through the efforts for many years, RCID has established extensive international cooperation with research institutions in U.S.A., Britain , Canada , Singapore , Holland , Switzerland ,etc., and has launches the joint study of technological innovation with MIT, NUS for a long time. RCID has organized three successful international Symposiums on management of technology and innovation (in 1995,1998,2002).These Symposiums were hosted by Zhejiang University, and organized by RCID of Zhejiang University. The past ISMOT'02 continued its tradition which strongly links academy, industry and government, some CEOs or CTOs from world and national famous enterprises were invited as keynote speakers. By far ISMOT has become the most important international conference in China in the field of managing technology and innovation, both in terms of scale and academic level. It also wins increasing international influence all through the world. Some famous scholars and CTOs give plenary addresses, such as Professor AnnaLee Saxenian (University of California Berkeley, USA), Professor Max von Zedtwitz (IMD, Switzerland), Professor Jay Lee(University of Wisconsin, USA), Professor Xu Qingrui (Director of RCID, Zhejiang University), Dr. Michael Menke(HP, USA).et al. By holding these international Symposiums, many remarkable benefits have been gained. Firstly, the strong capability of Zhejiang University and RCID for academic research and organizing was showed to all the participators both native and abroad, by which the academic reputation of RCID and Zhejiang University has been improved; Secondly, it promotes the communication and exchange between universities and industries, and many international co-research projects have been brought forward, which would contribute to the goal of building the first class university in the world. " R&D management"," Management of Research, Development and Technological Innovation", etc. are the important representative publications of RCID in the field of management of science and technology in our country. What's more, many innovation literatures were translated by RCID, such as" Innovation Management"," Industrial Innovation Manual" ,etc., relevant achievements have got Award for Science and Technology of Chinese university, Outstanding Achievement Prize of the of the Science of Education of Ministry of Education, National-level Outstanding Teaching Award, Outstanding Achievement Prize of Human & Social Science of Ministry of Education, the Progress Prize in Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province, Outstanding Achievement Prize of Philosophy & Social Science of Zhejiang Province, etc. Guided by "Rigorous, Practical, Internationalization", RCID has train many high-level talents in technological innovation management in recent years, both with doctorial and master degrees, some of them have become the academic elites in universities, some others have been fruitful in the business field. RCID invites some famous scholars, top managers, high-ranking government officials as the advisors.
